President at the cabinet session: International colonialism and Zionism seeks conflict between religions

  1/10/2015
Summary:President Hassan Rouhani warned that certain trans-regional countries are implementing plots to create rift among Muslims, and urged strengthening unity between Shiites and Sunnis.

"Under the circumstances prevailing in the world today and with all the dangers threatening the Muslim world, the Shiite and Sunni Muslims are necessitated to side with each other and we should stand hand in hand to create unity in the Muslim world," Dr.Rouhani said, addressing a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

He cautioned that those outside the Muslim world are widening natural and theoretical differences among Muslims to stir religious and sectarian strife in a bid to prevent the region and the Muslim world's development.

“They are definitely the foreign hands that turn the natural, intellectual and theoretical differences into quarrel and dispute among denominations and sects,” said president Rouhani.

He also warned that such foreign-engineered divisions could jeopardize the region and the world and also obstruct the process of development.
President Rouhani further criticized the TV and radio channels that claim to advocate Shiite or Sunni Muslims but broadcast programs against each other, saying those media outlets are certainly organized by the colonial elements, directly or indirectly.

The president then stressed the need for unity between the Sunni and Shiite Muslims in a bid to counter the threats against the Islamic world in the contemporary era.
