FM: Iran, India play pivotal role in int?l arena

Summary:Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said here on Thursday that Iran and India play very pivotal role in the international arena.
Talking exclusively to IRNA, Zarif made the remarks in the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Zarif underlined that he will hold talks with Indian officials on a range of bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest. 

Pointing to the importance of establishing peace and tranquility in the region, Zarif noted he would hold talks with Indian officials on the future of Afghanistan and discuss such issues as extremism and terrorism witht them.

Describing Iran and India as the two important members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), he said the two countries could play an influential role within the NAM?s framework.

Zarif Thursday morning arrived in New Delhi on a two-day official visit to India.


India and Iran have ancient relations. The two countries are associated by common bonds of culture, language, traditions. 

Despite the failed attempt of certain countries to create rift between the two nations, India and Iran continue to maintain friendly and historical ties.
