Summary: A senior Iranian legislator said Wednesday that over 29 parliament speakers from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states have voiced their willingness to participate in the 9th Conference of the Speakers of OIC Parliamentary Union in the Iranian capital in mid-February.
Chairman of the Iranian Parliaments National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said that speakers of almost all the Persian Gulf littoral states will participate in the event.
Boroujerdi described the conference as important regarding the current situation in the Muslim World as well as global crises and expansion of terrorism in the region.
The conference is slated for February 14-18.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation, formerly Organization of the Islamic Conference, was established in 1969 and has 57 members. The organization aims to promote dialogue between Islamic countries and the rest of the world and also protect the interests of Muslims when necessary.
Parliamentary Union of the OIC has 53 members.
